Welcome to Desktoptips Digital Printing Page. The Term Digital Printing is a broad term used to describe various types of printing devices typically producing a final print directly from a computer. Perhaps the most commonly used type of Digital Printing is the printing produced by the newer generation of Color Laser Photocopiers which these days will print directly from a computer as a desktop printer would. These Laser Printers use special color toners and can produce large volumes of color or black and white prints at very cost effective prices and are typically able to collate and print both sides of the pages in a document. Many of these machines can print, collate and bind a document. This means you can feed an electronic document in the computer and produce a finished book in one go. Most of the Fast Print shops such as 'Snap Printing' use these large Digital Printing Machines. They are better suited to print runs under 2,000 units over this number and Offset printing becomes more cost effective. The artwork requirements for this type of printing can vary immensely. For Office and internal Business documents programs such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher are more than enough to fit the bill. However for a high quality job I would suggest using the same programs as you would for Desktop Publishing such as Adobe InDesign, Quark Express or Scribus (of course there are many more suitable programs). Another type of Printing which is produced directly from the computer is the new type of Direct Garment Printing Machines. These Machines use Inkjet Technology to Print Directly on to a garment . The Inks are then cured by heat in either an Oven or a Press. These machines can print a variety of colors, even White on Black Garments.
Essentially these machines are printing Garment designs from such programs as Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw or Inkscape. Please Visit our Illustration Pages for Tutorials and Lessons on These Programs. You can also print Photographic Images with Text and special Effects from Photo Editing Programs such as Photoshop, Corel PhotoPaint or The Gimp. Visit our Photo Editing Page for Tutorials and Lessons on these programs.

There is also Direct Transfer Printing where Transfers are printed and then applied by a Heat Press onto garments. There are transfer papers available for both Inkjet and Lase Printers that will apply a permenaent Print to a Garment. Sublimation Printing is also a form of Digital Printing. Please visit our Sublimation Printing Page for more details on this process.
